Superintendent Paul Sweat has dedicated more than 33 years to Wasatch County School District, rising from his initial role as a middle school math teacher to his current position leading the district as superintendent. Along the way, he has held nearly every instructional and administrative role, including principal of Wasatch High School and Director of Secondary Education. His extensive experience has shaped his leadership philosophy and earned him recognition as a forward-thinking and collaborative educational leader.

Superintendent Sweat is widely recognized for his ability to inspire a shared vision and foster a culture of excellence. As principal, he championed the Professional Learning Community (PLC) model, effectively creating an environment of continuous learning for both faculty and students. His leadership propelled the district to achieve the esteemed “Model PLC at Work” designation from Solution Tree, a distinction awarded to only 32 school districts across the U.S. and Canada. This honor reflects the district’s exceptional staff collaboration and its measurable impact on significant student achievement gains.

Also known for his dedication to placing the right people in the right positions, he fosters leadership development among district administrators to support the district’s mission, vision, and goals. The results speak for themselves: enrollment has surged by 34%, yet student achievement in literacy, math, and science has risen dramatically—by as much as 30 percentage points in some areas.

A pivotal accomplishment in Superintendent Sweat’s tenure has been the launch and success of the district’s groundbreaking “Digital Conversion” initiative. This innovative program has transformed teaching and learning in the district by implementing personalized education strategies and cutting-edge digital tools.

Superintendent Sweat’s leadership has guided the district through significant growth. As principal, he played a key role in securing funding for the bond to rebuild Wasatch High School in 2009, successfully leading the project to completion. As superintendent, he has overseen the construction of four new school facilities—Daniels Canyon Elementary, Timpanogos Middle School, and the Wasatch Aquatic Center—in response to the district’s rapidly growing student population. These projects reflect a commitment to ensuring that students have access to high-quality learning environments. Additionally, to further support this growth, the district’s second high school is scheduled to open in Fall 2026.

In addition to his impactful local leadership, Superintendent Sweat is a nationally recognized educator. He has been nominated as a member of the National Superintendents Association Digital Consortium, served on the Utah State Digital Learning Advisory Board, and was featured in the January 2025 issue of School Administrator magazine, published by the School Superintendents Association for which Superintendent Sweat serves as Governing Board Member for Utah. The profile highlighted his innovative approach and the district’s path to excellence under his leadership.

With a demonstrated commitment to leadership and service through various roles, Superintendent Sweat is the acting Chair of the Northeastern Utah Educational Services (NUES) Board, and a member of the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) Board of Trustees.

He also serves as the Chair of the BYU Public School Partnership Governing Board, which oversees the collaboration between Brigham Young University and five Utah public school districts to renew education, prepare and develop engaged educators, promote equitable learning, and implement innovative practices, all guided by a shared mission and vision to enhance student learning and well-being.

Superintendent Sweat draws inspiration from his father, a carpenter and farmer who dedicated 16 years to the Wasatch school board, serving half of that time as president. His father’s example instilled in him the values of hard work, community service, and commitment to education. How do we add that Paul has grown up in this district.

A proud native of the Heber Valley, Superintendent Sweat earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Brigham Young University in 1991 and a Master of Education degree from the University of Utah. He has also completed the required PhD coursework at Utah State University, focusing on Professional Learning Communities in the high school setting.
