Wasatch County School Board Finalizes New Middle & High School Boundaries for the Opening of Deer Creek High School in August 2026

HEBER CITY, Utah — Wasatch County School District Board of Education voted on November 5, 2025, to approve new middle and high school boundaries that will take effect with the opening of Deer Creek High School in August 2026. The decision was made during a Special Board Meeting that included an opportunity for public comment, and follows more than six months of study sessions, public surveys, neighborhood meetings, and extensive community input.
 
With the newly-approved boundaries, Rocky Mountain Middle School will feed to Deer Creek High School, and Timpanogos Middle School will feed to Wasatch High School.
 
“We really value our community’s input,” said Board President Kim Dickerson, noting that every email received during the process was read by Board members. “We set the example for our kids. Even when we disagree, we move forward as one community.”
 
After discussion, the Board voted 3–2 to adopt the new boundary map, with board members Dickerson, Holmes and Collett as “yay” votes, Dedrickson and Ehlert as “nay.”
While acknowledging that not every family received the outcome they hoped for, Board Member Brad Ehlert emphasized that the decision allows the district to move forward, noting, “It is not easy when you have to listen to personal stories. But ultimately, a decision was made tonight, and we will support that and run with that.”
 
Board Member Jake Collett reflected on the process, saying, “I hope you feel heard. I hope you know how much we have cared and how much we will continue to care and support in any way that we can.”
 
Families will retain the ability to request attendance at the other school through school choice, a commitment affirmed throughout the process.
 
Superintendent Dr. Garrick Peterson shared, “Our job now is to prepare two great high schools and two great middle schools for every student,” Peterson said. “The adults will set the tone. We will remain a united valley.”
 
Board Member Breanne Dedrickson thanked the community for maintaining civility, noting, “The majority of people reached out with professionalism and respect. The decision has been made, and we will move forward united.”

During the Oct. 28 Study Session, the Board of Education reviewed the process leading up to the upcoming boundary public hearing—the final step in a months-long effort to prepare for the opening of Deer Creek High School in 2026. Superintendent Dr. Garrick Peterson outlined the hearing’s purpose as a formal opportunity for public feedback before final Board action. Board members discussed key community themes such as safety, traffic flow, and feeder patterns, reaffirming that transparency, data, and equity have guided every step of the process.

Oct. 28, 2025 School Boundaries Public Hearing

During the Oct. 28 Public Hearing, the Board invited community feedback on proposed 2026–27 school boundaries in preparation for the opening of Deer Creek High School. Parents, students, and teachers shared thoughtful comments on safety, continuity, and program access, along with themes of equity, mental health, transportation, and community connection. Superintendent Dr. Garrick Peterson and the Board expressed gratitude for the community’s engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to creating two strong, equitable high schools that serve every Wasatch student well.

Oct. 30, 2025 Special Board Meeting

During a special Study Session on Oct. 30, the Wasatch County School Board continued discussions following the Oct. 28 boundary public hearing. Board members reviewed updated demographic data, transportation needs, and neighborhood feedback to refine attendance areas for the opening of Deer Creek High School in 2026. Discussion focused on growth in the Center Creek and Coyote Lane areas, balancing enrollment, and maintaining student safety and proximity, with members reaffirming their commitment to clear, equitable boundaries for all Wasatch students.

Public Hearing - Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, 6:30 p.m.

The Board of Education has identified a final proposed boundary change for the 2026–27 school year, related to the opening of Deer Creek High School. The proposed boundary, shown on the reverse of this postcard, will be considered for approval following a public hearing on October 28, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Wasatch Education Center (101 East 200 North, Heber City). During the hearing, the Board will receive public comment on the proposed changes affecting Timpanogos Middle School, Rocky Mountain Middle School, and Wasatch High School. Families and community members are encouraged to attend and share feedback.
