To our WCSD Community,

The Wasatch County School District Board of Education is proud to announce that Dr. Garrick Peterson has been selected as our next Superintendent of Schools.

This milestone marks the conclusion of a comprehensive, nationwide search led by the Utah School Boards Association and shaped by sincere efforts to gather community input. From the start, the Board was committed to a process grounded in transparency, collaboration, and thoughtful engagement to guide the selection of our next superintendent.

Key components of the process included:

• An application review committee made up of parents, educators, and community members
• Careful evaluation and recommendation of top candidates by the committee
• Board interviews with the five candidates recommended by the review committee
• Finalists participating in live Q&A sessions with district teachers and administrators
• A final, in-depth interview conducted by the Board of Education

Dr. Peterson brings over 20 years of educational experience, including the past six in key leadership roles within Wasatch County School District, where he has consistently demonstrated a thoughtful, student-centered approach grounded in results. Prior to joining Wasatch, he served in Alpine School District as a principal and director, contributing to impressive student achievement and districtwide growth initiatives, including participating in the planning and successful launch of several new high schools. That background offers valuable perspective as our community prepares for the addition of a second high school in our valley. Known for his collaborative leadership and strong commitment to academic excellence, Garrick has played a central role in leading Wasatch to significant student achievement gains, recognized at both the state and national levels. He is deeply invested in the success of our students, staff, and families, and brings the vision, integrity, and trusted relationships needed to lead our district into the future.
Dr. Peterson will succeed Superintendent Paul Sweat, who is retiring after an exceptional 34-year career in Wasatch County School District.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to thank the many individuals who helped guide this process, from the parents and community members on the review committee to the teachers and administrators who engaged with the finalists. Your voices were invaluable. Throughout each phase of the process, the most qualified candidate to lead Wasatch County School District forward consistently rose to the top. We are proud to announce Dr. Garrick Peterson as our next Superintendent of Schools.” – Kim Dickerson, Board President
