Wasatch Learning Academy:
flexible online and parent-directed learning options

The Wasatch Learning Academy (WLA) is a public K–8 school within the Wasatch County School District in Heber City, Utah. Like all public schools in Utah, WLA is publicly funded and committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities for students and families seeking flexible learning options.

At Wasatch Learning Academy, we strive for excellence with the goal of ensuring at least one year of measurable academic growth for every student, every year. Our instructional programs are built around clearly identified essential standards and learning outcomes that guide student learning and progress.

Recognizing that students learn in different ways, WLA partners with Harmony Education to provide a comprehensive online learning option. This program combines the flexibility of learning from home with structured coursework, individualized support, and accountability, allowing students to receive a quality education while remaining connected to their local public school system.

Harmony Education:

Harmony partners with Wasatch Learning Academy to offer tuition-free, school-at-home, and customized distance learning options.  Families remain enrolled in the public system while enjoying the flexibility of homeschooling.

Harmony offers curriculum flexibility, financial allotments, academic support and special education support.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University, and earned a Master’s of Education from Southern Utah University, along with endorsements in English as a Second Language and Elementary Mathematics.

He spent four years as a 4th Grade Teacher before beginning his 20-year tenure with Wasatch, where he has served as a 4th Grade Teacher, Technology Specialist and Teacher on Special Assignment, and Principal at J.R. Smith Elementary School before taking the helm of Wasatch Learning Academy.

When asked about Wasatch, he says it’s the District’s “emphasis on student learning” that makes him most proud.

Educational Philosophy:

“What we learn today doesn’t make yesterday wrong, it makes tomorrow better.”

Secretary, Angie Kennard

Angie has called the Heber Valley home for more than 35 years. She met her husband in the halls of Wasatch High School, and together they have raised five wonderful children in this community they love.

Angie previously worked for the Wasatch County School District at Rocky Mountain Middle School as both a secretary aide and a special education aide. Through these roles, she gained valuable experience supporting students, families, and staff while developing a deep appreciation for the positive impact schools have on their communities.

She is thrilled to once again be part of the Wasatch County School District and to serve the students, families, and staff of Wasatch Learning Academy. Angie brings a strong commitment to helping others, a wealth of experience working in educational settings, and a genuine enthusiasm for creating a welcoming and supportive environment where every student can succeed.
