{"id":1120,"date":"2022-08-25T17:32:18","date_gmt":"2022-08-25T17:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wasatch.edu\/whs\/?page_id=1120"},"modified":"2025-10-30T20:51:46","modified_gmt":"2025-10-30T20:51:46","slug":"excel-time","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wasatch.edu\/whs\/excel-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Excel Time"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-page\" data-elementor-id=\"1120\" class=\"elementor elementor-1120\" data-elementor-post-type=\"page\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-22a3b79 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"22a3b79\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-0323022\" data-id=\"0323022\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-95bacb3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"95bacb3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong style=\"background-color: transparent; color: #333333; font-family: 'Merriweather Sans', sans-serif;\">What is Excel Time?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Excel Time is our schoolwide intervention program here at WHS that allows teachers to reteach and help those students who have not mastered the essential skills of a particular course.\u00a0<\/li><li>During Excel Time, some students are requested to work with specific teachers and others are able to choose from an offering of academic enrichments.\u00a0<\/li><li>Every student has a place to go during Excel Time, and every student is required to attend.\u00a0<\/li><li>Excel Time, like every other class period on a student&#8217;s schedule, does fall under our school&#8217;s attendance policy, meaning students can earn a UA citizenship grade for missing Excel Time.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Why do we have Excel Time?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>There are some things that every student needs to know before leaving WHS.\u00a0 And, while class time does allow for teaching, learning, and enrichment, we know not every student masters a concept the first time.\u00a0 There needs to be additional time built into the schedule to reteach the essentials.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><div style=\"padding: 17px 0px 24px; margin: 0px; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; border-bottom: none; border-left: 0px;\"><div style=\"padding: 0px; margin: 0px;\"><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>When does Excel Time take place?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Excel Time takes place every Wednesday and Thursday between 1st and 2nd periods.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>What is an Excel Time session?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>\u201cSessions\u201d are the classes students attend during Excel Time.\u00a0 Every teacher in the building offers an Excel Time session of some sort for students.\u00a0 And, students then\u00a0 sign-up or register for their Excel Time sessions every Tuesday.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>What is the difference between a closed and open session?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Closed sessions are specifically for those students who were previously assigned to attend.\u00a0 Teachers determine the topics or essentials covered in a closed session, and they also determine which students need to be there.\u00a0 Only assigned students can attend a closed session.\u00a0<\/li><li>Open sessions are open to any student that was not previously assigned to a closed session. (Note: Some open sessions, due to safety reasons and students needing to know how to work with specific equipment, might be limited to students enrolled in specific courses, ie: Open sessions held in the wood shop or metal shop.)\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>How will students be assigned to\u00a0Closed Sessions?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Teachers will assign students to closed sessions based on a student\u2019s performance in their class and whether or not they have mastered specific skills and standards.\u00a0<\/li><li>All students will receive an email from RTI Scheduler on Tuesday mornings.\u00a0 The email prompts students to login and view their assigned closed sessions and\/or prompts them to register for an open session of their choosing.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>How will students register for open sessions?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>If a student is not requested for a closed session on one or both days for that week, they will see a link in their email allowing them to choose the open session(s) they will attend.\u00a0 Students can also go to the RTI Scheduler website directly to login and select their classes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>These sessions are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. As sessions fill, they will drop off the list of available open sessions.<\/li><li>Time will be given at the end of second period during our schoolwide announcements for students to register for Excel Time.<\/li><li>But, students can register on their own starting before school Tuesday morning and up until 2:30 PM that day, when registration closes.<\/li><li>Pay attention to the description of each open session.\u00a0 Some open sessions, ie: those taking place in the woodshop or metal shop, might have a requirement that students already be safety certified or be enrolled in a specific course in order to register.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>Will attendance be taken during Excel Time?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Yes, Excel Time attendance will be monitored.\u00a0<\/li><li>Attendance will be recorded in SIS in the student\u2019s G\/8 and B\/8 classes.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>Is Excel Time mandatory for Seniors?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Yes, participation in Excel Time is expected for all students who have a class scheduled for 2nd\u00a0period.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>Is there a grade attached\u00a0to Excel Time Sessions?<\/strong><\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>No, there are no grades attached specifically to Excel Time sessions, but students will receive UAs for this course according to the <a style=\"cursor: pointer; color: #e9bf00;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wasatch.edu\/site\/Default.aspx?PageID=8137\" target=\"\">school attendance policy<\/a>.<\/li><li>Closed sessions and select open sessions can help students perform better in their regularly scheduled classes, which is why attendance is mandatory.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding: 10px 0px;\"><strong>Where do students go when they have questions about Excel Time?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\"><li>Excel Time is a schoolwide program.\u00a0 Students should be able to ask any teacher on campus and receive an answer as to how Excel Time works and functions.\u00a0<\/li><li>Students are also welcome to stop by the library and chat with Erin Heywood, our school&#8217;s Excel Time Coordinator.\u00a0 Or, they can reach out to Matthew Sproul, the vice principal over Excel Time.<\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Excel Time?
