Dave McNaughtan lived throughout the U.S. as a military kid before graduating from Clearfield High School in Davis County, but considers Heber his hometown, as he’s lived in the Valley for more than 30 years and grew up working his family’s farm here in the summers. He received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in Math from the University of Utah, a Master’s of Education on the Diverse Learner and holds an Administrative Certificate. Mr. McNaughtan has spent 23 years in education, with nine years in the Park City School District as an Assistant Principal and Principal, though the bulk of his career has been with Wasatch, initially as a Math/Social Studies Teacher at Wasatch Alternative High School, and ultimately as Principal of Timpanogos Intermediate School before opening Timpanogos Middle School as Principal. He lives in Heber with his wife of 28 years, Julie Olson, and has five children, three boys and two girls, plus one beautiful granddaughter. When considering what makes him proud to part of Wasatch, he says, “I consider myself to be a ‘Lifer in Wasatch County and I love this school district. It has fantastic teachers, administrators and the best students and families in the country. When I hear we, ‘Expect to Excel’ in Wasatch County schools, I believe it and I want to be part of that excellence.”
Mr. McNaughtan’s Educational Philosophy:
I believe that teachers are the driving force of excellence in education. If we can support our teachers on the front line, then our students will achieve excellence. All students can learn, and we want all students to learn at high levels and have the doors open to all possibilities.
